OGUN REITERATES COMMITMENT TO REPOSITION AGRIC SECTOR


Ogun State government has stated that it will take necessary steps to build a new generation of farmers that would radically transform the landscape of agriculture in the State, just as it is ready to implement the recommendations made by a group of agricultural experts on the road map for the advancement of the agricultural sector of the State.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Engineer. Ayo Olubori made this position of government known at the ministry’s headquarters in Abeokuta at the wrap-up session of the visit of the agricultural experts from California State University, Fresno, USA

Engineer.Olubori pointed out that the State government believed that if properly developed, the agricultural sector could be a veritable source of generating employment, creating wealth, ensuring food security as well as producing inputs for industries.

He added that it was in realization of the important role which the sector could play in the socioeconomic growth of the State that the Senator Amosun-led administration made it one of the focal areas of his 5-cardinal programmes, pointing out that government had been taking necessary steps to reposition the sector for optimal performance.

Describing the visit of the experts as rewarding, Engineer. Olubori assured that government would adhere strictly to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed with the University, expressing hope that the recommendations made would achieve set targets and have measurable impacts within the shortest time possible.

Earlier, leader of the visiting team, Mr. Muyiwa Omololu identified preliminary thoughts of the team to include the need for international partnership for the execution of large-scale projects in the agricultural sector.

He also disclosed that following the bilateral partnership between the State and the university, the latter would interface with grant bodies on possible sources of finance for the advancement of agriculture in the State.

The team of agricultural experts from Jordan College of Agricultural Science and Technology, California State University Fresno, USA arrived the State last Tuesday during which they visited several farming institutes and allied establishments.
